Perm representatives took part in the seminar “International cooperation at the local government level: legal issues and practices” that was held in Rostov-on-Don by the Union of Russian Cities.
Participants included the representatives of the Russian Ministry for Foreign Affairs and local governments. The goal of the seminar was to consider the legal aspects and experience as well as to present the best practices of maintaining international links at the local level by municipal governments.
Perm was represented by Tatiana Grigorieva, head of international relations department of Perm City Administration, who gave a presentation covering
a variety of projects implemented in cooperation with twin cities of Perm.
The seminar participants took a high interest to learn more about the following best practices of Perm in producing “Twin cities” newsletter, creating the English version of the official Internet site of the city administration, establishing a direct interaction between journalists of Perm and Oxford. A positive assessment was given to such joint projects as the city’s social projects competition “The city is us”, “Oxford Representatives” project initiated by Oxford City Council as well as the events held in 2017 as part of celebrating 10 years of establishing official twinning relations with Duisburg (Germany).
“No doubt, Perm has a lot of ideas to share. A proof to this is the fact that in 2017 Perm took the top position among million-populated cities in international activity rating issued by Eurasia Regional Section of the World organization "United Cities and Local Governments", says Tatiana Grigorieva.
The participants highly assessed the importance of people’s diplomacy maintained at municipal level. The seminar proved to be a perfect venue for those who want to exchange experience in promoting international links and projects. This exchange will further be developed at the coming Forum for Best Municipal Practices that will be held in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) on April 10-12, 2018.
